In 2019, Sesame Street – everyone's favorite educational and playful children's television show – celebrated its 50th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the USPS issued 16 new Forever stamps featuring: Big Bird, Ernie and Rubber Duckie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch and Slimey, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia and Fluffster, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe. They are still entertaining and educating children today.

Because Henson believed his characters had wide appeal, he launched The Muppet Show in 1976. For five years, unforgettable personalities like a glamorous but aggressive pig and a well-meaning, bumbling bear reached 235 million viewers in more than 100 countries.

The Muppet Show won three Emmy awards and was followed by several feature films. Jim Henson’s magical talent changed the ancient art of puppetry into a theatrical art form that became part of popular American culture.
