About this stamp:
This stamp commemorates the 50th anniversary of New Mexico statehood. New Mexico was admitted as the 47th U.S. state on January 6, 1912. The stamp pictures “Shiprock,” a rock formation rising over 1,500 feet above the surrounding area. It’s located in the northwest part of the state and has great religious significance for the Navajo people. While climbing Shiprock is illegal, there are still attempts made by ambitious rock climbers.
