About this stamp:
This stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of Joseph Pulitzer’s birth. The stamp features a portrait of Pulitzer, the Statue of Liberty, and the words, “Our Republic and Its Press Will Rise or Fall Together.”
A Hungarian immigrant, Pulitzer became one of the greatest American newspaper publishers of all time. Although his initial success was achieved through sensationalism, with his paper the New York World, he established high journalistic standards. He founded the Columbia School of Journalism and the Pulitzer Prizes for achievement in journalism, literature, music, and art.
