About this stamp:
To give the collector and user of high-value definitives more for their money, this stamp was issued in the commemorative size. The USPS officials hoped that the increased size and the use of large, bold denomination symbols would make it easier for postal workers to distinguish between dollar-value stamps and 1¢, 2¢, and 5¢ stamps. The painting of a bobcat stretched out on a log was done by wildlife artist Chuck Ripper, who also designed the 50-stamp American Wildlife pane.
