Issued during the annual convention of the American Forestry Association, this stamp features the giant Sequoia, a native to the United States.

A treasured living heirloom in the museum of nature, the giant sequoia is the most massive and probably the oldest of all living things. It is one of the world's tallest and most venerable trees, commonly reaching a height of 250‐280 feet and a diameter of 10‐15 feet and attaining ages of 4,000‐5,000 years. Once widespread through the forests of the Northern Hemisphere, the giant sequoia is today found only in some 30 groves, some along a narrow belt of eastern California and some in scattered groves on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
